Perform various administrative tasks and respond to inquiries from Commission personnel, private contractors, other agencies and the general public utilizing Geographic Information System data. Write, type or enter information into computer databases to prepare routine and non-routine correspondence, work orders, permits and other forms utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Responsible for the maintenance of GIS data, executing, ensuring adherence to data standards, procedures and quality control of data. Prepare and analyze reports using GIS and other data. Research Commission databases and interpret information for customer use. Assist in the preparation of applications for a wide variety of permits. Maintain manual and electronic databases and files. Responsible for the electronic tracking of site plan documents into GIS and other databases. Read and interpret construction drawings, site plans and blueprints. Act as a liaison between Commission personnel, customers and public agencies. Provide input in database enhancement and system upgrade. Participate in installation, testing, and acceptance of software. Recommend development designs for new or modified database elements. Answer telephones, screen calls, take messages and respond to public and internal requests for information. May assist in training of users in the use of applications. May assist in the design and implementation of applications, attend training and execute applications. May assist in developing and following GIS database standards for content, format, design and maintenance procedures. Perform other duties as assigned or required to fulfill the function of the position.
High School Diploma or GED required. Three (3) years experience in the principles and practices of cartography, computer mapping and spatial processing methods is required. A Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, Computer Science, Planning, Engineering or related discipline may be substituted for experience requirement. Must have a working knowledge of Commission standards and specification for construction of sewer, water and drain installations. Experience with engineering drafting and field data techniques is preferred. Ability to perform essential functions of position while working in a team oriented atmosphere. Ability to follow directions in both written, graphical and oral form.
